Iron Sky: Invasion is a space combat simulator in the spirit of the legendary classic you–know-what series, complemented by elements of strategy and RPG. The basis of the gameplay is the battles between ships combined with the assault of huge spaceships such as Siegfried-class Zeppelins, as well as tactical thinking and resource management. The game takes place in outer space, where players must defend the Earth from the Nazi invasion from the moon. Players control spaceships, flying freely in open space and attacking Nazi ships. They have various weapons and equipment at their disposal, ranging from laser cannons and missiles to maneuverable drones and satellites that can be launched from certain ships. The vessels are also equipped with military equipment to protect against enemy fire. Players have access to a tactical map of outer space to determine the location of Nazi forces or ongoing battles. The ultimate goal is to destroy the secret Nazi base hidden on the dark side of the moon and secure the Earth from the invaders´ ships. The game is based on a cult movie. It also has elements of politics: different nations will offer unique missions, but the player will decide whether to accept them or not. Some missions will bring players special rewards, such as coveted upgrades or even brand new ships. Players can dock with allied stations to recharge weapons, purchase upgrades, or change ships. Almost all the spaceships that appear in the film are available to control in the game (except the largest), including the South Korean reconnaissance ship Zerg, the Australian bomber Dundee and the English fighter Spitfire. The availability of some ships will depend on the completion of certain missions. Ship subsystems can be improved in the hangar: for example, improving offensive systems will increase the number of weapons and increase their power, and an engine upgrade will increase the ship´s speed and interception range.
