9th Company Roots of Terror is a real-time strategy game based on the events that took place during the Soviet military campaign in Afghanistan.

9th Company follows a team of young recruits subjected to brutal training in Uzbekistan´s Fergana Valley and a bloody battle against Mujahideen´s soldiers on an unnamed hill in Afghanistan. This is a continuation of the Battle of Thermopylae: one Russian soldier against ten Afghan ones!

9th Company recreates in detail the events of the last large-scale Soviet military operation. Few people know this story: On January 8, 1988, the 9th Company of the 345th Guard Airborne Regiment came under fire on Hill 3234. They managed to stop several attacks by four hundred Mujahideen and Pakistani mercenaries and hold the position for two days. The team lost six soldiers and 28 of the remaining 39 men were wounded. Two soldiers of the 9th company were posthumously awarded the Gold Star medal and the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
