STALKER: Clear Sky is set in 2011, a year before the events of the original STALKER game.

A group of stalkers for the first time gets into the very heart of the Zone - the Chernobyl nuclear power plant - and causes a cataclysm on the brink of disaster. A huge explosion of anomalous energy transforms the Zone: once reliable and relatively safe roads are no longer the same, the landscape is cleared of flashes of anomalies, and previously unknown areas appear on the map of the zone. Stalkers and expeditions die or become isolated within the Lost Territories.

At maximum anomalous activity, the unstable Zone continues to tremble with flashes. The transformation of the Zone map destabilizes the delicate balance of power in the Zone. Fighting breaks out among groups for new territories, artifact fields, and spheres of influence. There are no more old enemies or friends - now everyone looks only at themselves. The Faction War has begun.

The protagonist is a mercenary who has appeared on the edge of the opposition between the factions of stalkers, shooters and even the Zone itself. The protagonist experiences a key role in the events that led to the creation of the Zone up until the point where the original STALKER game begins.

What new problems await stalkers in the depths of the new zone? Why do anomalous outbreaks continue to rumble in the Zone and what can be done to stop them? Which faction will prevail in the Faction War? These and many other questions will be answered in the official prequel - STALKER: Clear Sky.
